Welcome. If you’re here, you’re either a member of my Digital Storytelling class or have a vested interest in any and all coverage on the 2016 election in the U.S. In either case, let me explain a bit about what you’ll find here:
Because of the fact that I am political science student in addition to my journalism major, and because of the fact that I consider this election to be one of the most important of our time (and not only because it will be the first election in which I will be able to vote), I am going to focus my weekly blog posts for this site on the 2016 presidential election.
Of course, one might point out that to write a blog or column or even an entire news website on the election would prove to be easier said than done with the sheer volume of media coverage that has accompanied particularly this specific election (for many obvious reasons i.e. Trump saying something controversial just about every other day, or another facet of the ongoing Clinton email scandal becoming apparent, etc.) which is why I will focus on the objective of parsing out what I consider to be the best or worst written or produced stories covering both (or all three) camps. I will be looking at both ‘news of day’ pieces and longer term in-depth investigative stories which are released in the coming months. I will continue my coverage after the election is over when at that point I will transition to White House coverage (with the same objective) as one presidency transitions over to another.
This is a truly exciting and equally daunting time to be invested in the American political scene, and with any hope this blog will help to depict just why that is!
